Who A-Level Biology tuition suits

Application to unseen material

A question may describe an organism or experiment the student has never met and expect familiar principles to be applied. This can only be trained with genuinely unfamiliar practice questions.

The maths and statistics content

Standard deviation, chi-squared, correlation and the interpretation of significance appear regularly and are often the weakest area for otherwise strong biologists.

Extended answers that wander

Long-answer questions reward a structured, precise argument. Students who write everything they know about a topic score less than students who write half as much in the right order.

Depth of biochemical detail

Respiration, photosynthesis and protein synthesis demand a level of precise sequencing that GCSE never asked for, and vague answers are heavily penalised.

A typical first four weeks

Every plan is adjusted at the consultation, but this is the shape most engagements take.

    A short set of application and data questions, so the tutor can see whether the limiting factor is recall, transfer or written expression.

  2. Week 2

    Priority content, taught precisely

    The weakest biochemical or physiological topic is retaught to the level of detail the mark schemes require, then tested.

  3. Week 3

    Data, statistics and graphs

    Statistical test selection and interpretation, using real past-paper data sets from the student's board.

  4. Week 4

    Timed section and review

    A timed section including an extended answer, marked together, with a written progress note and revised targets.

My child got a 9 at GCSE but is struggling now. What changed?

The reward shifted from recall to application and precision. It is a common pattern in Year 12 and usually corrects once the student practises with unfamiliar questions rather than with notes.

Do you support the practical endorsement?

We support the examinable skills - method, variables, error and analysis - that appear in written papers. The endorsement itself is assessed by the school.

Can tutoring help with medicine applications too?

Yes, though that is separate work. We offer UCAT preparation and interview practice, and can coordinate a tutor across both. We never guarantee offers.
